now users will be able to pick up either the Xperia XZ1 or Xperia XZ1 Compact and use it on T-Mobile with WiFi Calling, HD Voice and VoLTE. It's hard to know if T-Mobile will block this phone, especially when I read things such as this from online articles: ". I was told that such a lists did not yet exist. I did ask the T-Mobile rep if there were a list of phones that would be phased out when the 3G network is dropped. I'm not interested in the current trend of huge, heavy, glass-backed phones with low battery life. If Sony were to release a successor to the XZ1 Compact, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Thus, it's starting to sound like I should have just kept my old ATT plan! Disappointed for sure. Their least expensive option is for unlimited 4G LTE data only, which is $60/mo. On top of that, T-Mobile doesn't offer any low-data plans for 4G LTE that I can switch over to in the meantime. Then I looked up some articles on T-Mobile's plans to phase out 3G, and the articles confirmed that, just like ATT, T-Mobile plans on phasing out the 3G network toward the beginning/middle of 2022 as well. It turns out that the T-Mobile plan I was set up with was for 3G only. I then noticed an H+ symbol in the upper corner of the screen, which was different than the LTE symbol I had always seen with my ATT plan. But, a day or two later, I noticed that going online was much slower than usual. Naturally, I went with it, and was relieved to have found a solution that would enable me to continue using the XZ1 Compact. The rep also ensured me that there were no plans to cancel service for the phone, unlike with ATT. The T-Mobile rep offered unlimited talk/text plus 4.5 GB of data for only $20/mo. I told them I wanted something similar to my ATT plan, which was $30/mo for unlimited talk/text plus 2 GB of 4G LTE data. There's only one issue: T-Mobile duped me when they created the plan for me. So, I switched carriers from ATT to T-Mobile, and the XZ1 Compact has been working just fine. Lastly, in case I really have to move to another phone, what are some good phones that are similar in size/power/battery life? I love the phone, and would rather switch to another decent provider over getting a new phone and continuing with ATT.Īlso, is there a way to get around the issue such that I can still somehow make and receive calls on my current XZ1 Compact? Am I correct in assuming that I will still be able to send/receive text messages with it beyond February. I worked pretty hard to get this international version of the phone, and to have a powerful, seriously compact phone that has awesome battery life.Īre there are other decent service providers for the XZ1 Compact Int'l version? Providers were already very limited when I chose ATT. This is seriously bothersome to me, and I certainly don't want to use the crap replacement phone ATT mailed to me. I don't really understand: How can service be cut off when the XZ1 Compact is advertized as having HD Voice and VoLTE support? He confirmed that my phone would be phased out in Feb, and said there was nothing he could do about it this time-there was no way he could prevent my phone from being dropped in Feb, when the 3G network is discontinued. I called the support line again, and told the rep the entire history of what happend before. The only difference this time is that my call eventually goes through, after the voice recording is over. Now (11/18/21), after successfully using my phone for the last 4.5 months after that incident, my outgoing calls are re-directed to a voice message that once again notified me that my service would cut off in February 2022. ![]() I called the support number that ATT kept re-directing my outgoing calls to, and they were able to "lift the ban", and told me it would be forever, and that it was just a matter of entering a code to "let my phone slide by the system" and continue operating on 4G, like it is capable of. I went to the ATT store, and they more or less said tough luck, my phone was phased out. I could still send and receive text messages, and all other aspects of my phone continued to work, as far as I know. I have had no issues with the phone until, back in July of 2021, every one of my outgoing calls got re-directed to an ATT support line. I have the XZ1 Compact International version, and am using it in the Bay Area, CA.
